NEW! Costume Production Volunteer, with Beleza School of Samba, for Brighton Pride 2018

To sew, or to sow, that is the question. :)

Beleza School of Samba is a social enterprise that aims to bring Brazilian samba to Brighton to engage all sections of the community. We have a dance section and a instrument section (the bateria) and we perform at a range of community events across the city. We also parade at Pride and we support a number of charities and community groups. This year we are being supported by a grant from the Arts Council to engage the local community in the development of our samba school and to support performances at Fringe festival and Pride. We are very excited to have the opportunity to bring our artistic vision to life and to have the opportunity to work with members of the community, local groups and volunteers.

The role:

We are looking for a volunteer to help with our costume production for our drummers and other players in our bateria for Brighton Pride 2018. Our designs are based on the heritage of Brighton and we have a small group of willing helpers who are able to sew and work along with the artistic volunteer co-ordinator.

The volunteer will be involved in costume production for our drummers and other players and there may be other opportunities to support costume production for our dancers. The volunteers will be fully acknowledged for their work and references and testimonials will be provided. The volunteer will also have the opportunity to see the finished costumes at Brighton Pride this summer and would be welcome to join us on the day for photos.

Time commitment:

8 hours per week for 3 months.

To apply for this role, please contact the University of Brighton’s Volunteering Service, Active Student:

The deadline to apply to Beleza is 30 April.
