Free event: ‘Starting Up: Top Tips from Entrepreneurs’

To celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, beepurple welcomes back four University of Brighton graduates to share their unique startup stories.

Join us on Wednesday 15 November (5.30 pm – 8.00 pm) at Edward Street to discuss entrepreneurship, get top business tips and discover the highs and lows of starting your own venture.

The event is free to University of Brighton students, graduates and staff, but places are limited and you must register in advance. You’ll be able to get your questions answered and meet likeminded entrepreneurs at what promises to be an inspiring event.

Maria Fox, Maria Allen Boutique
Maria has a well-established personalised jewellery business. She started up while studying Graphic Design and has grown to employ a team of six staff working out of her Hove studio. Her work sells on top online retail sites and she’s made exclusive collections for Tate Galleries, The British Museum, The Royal Academy of Arts and the Houses of Parliament.

Kurt Henderson, Kompas
Kurt is the co-founder of mobile app Kompas, which uses artificial intelligence to build travel recommendations based on who you are and where you are. He studied Digital Media Design and his startup won Visa’s European Everywhere Initiative this year, earning them 50,000 Euros to invest in growth.

Danielle Reynolds, DVR Equestrian
Recent graduate Danielle is a former finalist of the Santander University of Brighton Ideas Competition. This year she raised £10,000 through crowdfunding to launch her first clothing range aimed at horse-riders. Danielle studied Fashion with Business.

Heidi Swinyard, Teddy Brighton
Heidi runs Teddy Brighton, a homewares business inspired by her childhood growing up in ‘the Potteries’ of Stoke-On-Trent and her not-so-little miniature Dachshund Teddy. She is passionate about supporting local industries and has built a solid team of England-based manufactures, including jewellers, printers, fabric manufacturers, blacksmiths, leather workers and ceramicists. Heidi studied a Masters in Architecture.
