Get outdoors over the summer

The sun is shining so it’s time for a round-up of some volunteering you can do in the great outdoors.

Moulsecoomb Forest Garden and Wildlife Project are a fab community project just by Moulsecoomb train station. They’re open every Tuesday and Friday all year round and are always looking for committed volunteers who want to get involved with their gardening/conservation volunteer role. The whole community gets involved at MFGWP including volunteering alongside older people, teenagers and adults with learning disabilities. Stanmer Community Gardening Group are based in Stanmer Park and are open every Tuesday and Friday all year round as well as Thursdays throughout the summer. Their Gardening Volunteers get stuck in with whatever gardening duties are needed on the day. All volunteers are expected to respect those around them and get involved. Get involved with a variety of festival events July to October 2016, supporting the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. Get experience in event stewarding and supporting our Cultural Impact Evaluation, interacting with visitors and ask questions about their experience of the festival.

There are a range of events – from being a part of the live forging happening on the Stade Open Space from Blacksmiths on the Beach (July), to Chris Levine’s incredible light and sound show on Hastings Pier.

There is a training brunch in Hastings Sat 9 July at 11am, organised by Hastings Borough Council.

Volunteers need to

  • Be available during September and October 2016 for several events (and possibly some events during the summer would be great)
  • Own a smartphone for capturing data via our app, or be able to do paper-based surveys
  • Like being a part of the action and meeting new people

An interest in the arts is desirable
