Creating ideas for Know My Neighbour Week

Sign for Know My Neighbour projectEverybody needs good neighbours, right?

Did you know:

  • Fewer than a quarter of people in the UK feel a sense of belonging in the community
  • One in 10 have no interaction with neighbours

The University and the Students Union are teaming up with some local community organisations to help change this and we want you to get involved.

What’s the Project about?

Active Student, the University’s Volunteering Service for students and staff, and Community Organisers at the Students Union have teamed up to promote and support the Know My Neighbour project.

We are passionate about getting to know the people around us and would like to invite you to hear more about how you can get involved in the Know My Neighbour project. This is a simple idea to encourage neighbourliness through sharing creative ideas to get to know those that live or work closest to us.

This May, as part of the Brighton Festival ‘Home’ theme, there will be a week of activities across the City that will help us all get to know our neighbours.

How can you get involved?

Kate from the Know My Neighbour project will be coming to speak to us to let us know some things that are happening locally and encourage us all to think about what we could host at the University.

Date:             Thursday 14th April

Time:             12:30 – 1:30pm

Venue:          Chaplaincy, Steam House, Lewes Road

Possible ideas could include:

·         host a tea and cake session and invite all the people who work along your corridor

·         attend a door knocking session with residents and students to hear ideas about how to improve our local area

We hope to see you on Thursday 14th April!
If you are not able to attend the info session but would like to know more, please get in touch with Beth Thomas-Hancock or Dot Kirk
