Volunteering opportunities at Hastings Pier
The iconic pier is due to open this spring – volunteers are needed to help with planned visitor attractions, events, schools activities and retail outlets. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to build on your current skillset and gain valuable experience in the tourism, entertainment and education sectors.
A volunteer recruitment day is planned at the White Rock Hotel, Hastings on 8th March between 12noon and 3pm. To apply to volunteer at Hastings Pier register with Active Student, email volunteering@brighton.ac.uk.
Roles include:
Event Assistant Volunteer
The Events Assistant Volunteer will ensure that all visitors are welcomed warmly to Hastings Pier and given the information required to make the most out of the event they are attending. The volunteer will be providing event assistance for commercial and community events at the Pier.
Time commitment
Varied subject to event programming. Larger events are expected to operate during evenings and weekends throughout peak season. Volunteers will be given advanced notice of events where possible.
Visitor Services Volunteer
The Visitor Services Volunteer will ensure that all visitors are welcomed warmly to Hastings Pier and given the information required to make the most out of their Pier experience. The volunteer will be providing general visitor services including but not limited to the Pier Hub and Information & Retail Kiosk.
Time commitment
Four hour slots will be available between 10am-8pm daily including weekends (this may be subject to review). Preferred commitment of one or more sessions a week.
School and Family Activity Assistant Volunteer
Do you want to have fun and help visitors discover the magic of Hastings Pier? Do you enjoy interacting with and inspiring children? Do you have experience of working with children or would like to gain experience for a career working with children in the heritage sector? Hastings Pier Charity is about to open to the public and we are looking for volunteers to support us with the delivery of our schools and family activities. You will learn about the history of Hastings Pier and deliver your choice of sessions to your preferred age group. Examples of what you could be involved in are: school photography workshops, Victorian theme days, secondary schools study days and family craft activities and festivals.
Time commitment
You will be part of a team of volunteers who support and deliver schools and/or family activities, a list of activities will be send out every 2 months for you to sign up to. (Family activities will be in school holidays and weekends)
Heritage Interpretation Volunteer
As an Heritage Interpretation Volunteer you will have a vital role to play in supporting Hastings Pier Charity by telling everyone about this history off Hastings Pier. You will also research the history of the pier and people’s stories of their time on the pier to be added to our digital memory of the pier. As well as telling people about events and activities that are happening on the pier.
Time commitment
We a recruiting for a pool of volunteers to support with (4 hours) Friday every afternoon and the last weekend of each month (both Saturday and Sunday).
