Brighton Museum is taking volunteer applications – deadlines to apply are soon

Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is located in the Royal Pavilion garden, at the heart of the city’s cultural quarter. Its diverse collections bring together the arts and history to tell stories about the city and the world we live in.

Three roles currently available:

1. Schools Learning & Engagement Volunteer (based at The Old Courthouse)

The Schools programme welcomes 25,000 school children a year across our 5 sites and activities take place during school term time. However, all year round we are working to prepare new sessions, look after our handling collections, working with teacher focus groups, and to promote our service. We are currently looking for a capable, reliable and conscientious volunteer to assist us. Time commitment is one day a week for three months. Deadline for expressing an interest is 9 October 2015.

2. ‘A Cabinet of Curiosities’ Assistant Volunteer (based at Preston Manor)

Preston Manor is a charming historic house, decorated and furnished in Edwardian style. Its elegant reception rooms and functional servants’ quarters reveal the ‘upstairs and downstairs’ of life at the manor. Volunteers are needed for a special event at Preston Manor ‘A Cabinet of Curiosities’ which takes place on 30 October 2015 in the evening. The event is part of the Museums At Night festival. Deadline for expressing an interest is 5 October 2015.

3. Preston Manor Father Christmas Event Volunteer (based at Preston Manor)

Volunteers are needed for a special event at Preston Manor ‘Father Christmas’ which runs daily from Saturday 19 to Wednesday 23 December. The event is aimed at families with small children and is a magical seasonal experience for all involved. Deadline for expressing an interest is 5 October 2015.

You will learn the workings of a public facing programme within a historic house. You will be working with a dedicated team of people to provide a service. We value volunteers and aim to provide a worthwhile experience of this part of the museum sector.

To apply: Please contact Active Student, the University’s Volunteering Service. Remember to get in touch with us in good time, to meet the Museum’s application deadlines.
