During this session I learnt how to work with sheet metal in fusion 360. We learnt how to utilize parameters which were changeable. This would then work alongside the plasma cutter using sheet metal. Once the finished box was designed in fusion we unfolded it in the software to get the net of the box which was then sent to the plasma cutter. This was done by .dxf file which was readable by the software to lay out the net for the cutter.
Once the cutting path is sent to the plasma cutter, you have to change the start point of the cutter so that you waste as little material as possible. Once the net was cut out, we deburred the edges of the net and took the piece over to the folding machine where we bent the limbs of the box into shape. Once we had a rough shape we placed wooden blocks inside the box and hammered on the bends to create nice, sharp edges. We didn’t have access to welding equipment but to finish up the box furthermore we would have welded the box shut so that it maintained its shape.
