Waterblade

The Waterblade fits into a mixer tap and makes washing of hands both more luxurious and water efficient, and has won a UK innovation award. Company owner Nigel Bamford said: “At the time I invented the Waterblade I was working full time on a different business venture and did not have any spare time or design capacity. This all changed when I won an innovation voucher to work with Brighton University’s product design department. I now have international intellectual property protection for the Waterblade and we are actively exploring markets in the UK, Europe and globally.”

Arts and Crafts

The village of Ditchling just to the north of Brighton may be small, but has a big connection with the Arts and Crafts movement. Currently on show at the village museum is the work of Johnstone and Gill in the formulation of the brand identify of the London Underground.  Further into mid-Sussex, Standen House near East Grinsted is a good example of a house designed by and for the Arts and Crafts movement.

Interesting outcome from the Supreme Court yesterday which decided that the design of the Kiddee Case (on the left) did not infinge the registered design rights of the Trunki design on the right. Currently much debate on the impact of this on designers . . . .http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-35762610
