Blue Circle cement company logo, designed by FHK Henrion, reproduced on cement by artist and maker Steve Mace for the catalogue of his exhibition at the University of Brighton Faculty of Arts, Brighton, 2009.

Various items from the FHK Henrion Archive are to be included in an exhibition of cement-based work made over the past five years by artist Steve Mace. Steve’s work is a combination of production series and individual pieces relating to industrial processes and architectural forms. The work questions traditional printmaking techniques and research in the Design Archives was a significant component of the development process.

Steve was fascinated by Henrion’s work in creating a corporate identity for Blue Circle and the various printed outcomes of vastly different scales that such an undertaking necessitates. Recognised internationally, the Blue Circle identity raises issues about the impact of cement production at a global, regional and local level.

Exhibition is to be held at the Faculty of Arts from 10 October – 7 November 2009.
