Recap: The Southern Varsities Mooting Competition
Written by Brighton Uni mooting competitor, Robert Murphy:
On Saturday the 18th of May two teams from Brighton University took part in the Southern Varsities Moot Competition at the University of Sussex. Jamie Todd and I were the members of one team, and Ayanna White-Laurent and Kerry Levins were the other.
In total there were nine teams from five universities. Before lunch we took part in three rounds each, against teams from Sussex, Bournemouth, Kent and Exeter.
Jamie and I were lucky enough to make it to the semi-finals, which took place after lunch. We lost at this stage, but we think we did pretty well considering it was our first competition!
In the final, a team from Sussex beat a team from Kent. The standard was very high and one of the judges was from the Crown Court in Lewes. In all, we got to do two hours of mooting in front of five different judges, so it was excellent experience!
