Negotiation Competition Finals

Sarah Jabir and Suzannah Pinkerton have used their knowledge and skills of negotiation to join fellow winning teams from the National Negotiation Competition regional heats last weekend to represent the University of Brighton in the national final.

The second year law students competed along with 66 teams from across the country at various regional heats for the coveted final 12 places

Sarah and Suzannah competed in their crucial heat at the International Dispute Resolution Centre on Fleet Street in London.

The highly competitive day was judged by a panel of barristers, negotiators from the sponsors CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution), and academics.

There were 26 teams taking part in this heat with entrants including the University of Cambridge, Nottingham and the University of Law. Sarah and Suzannah stayed calm and focused under the pressure and won through to the National Final on the 19th March at the University of Kent, followed by a prestigious finals dinner at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge.

Frederick Way, Organiser of the National Negotiation Competition at CEDR commented “Well done to Sarah and Suzannah who demonstrated very strong negotiation skills at a competitive regional competition.  We look forward to welcoming them to compete at the National Final in March.”

Winners of the National Final will go on to represent England and Wales at the International Competition in Lucerne, Switzerland.

As finalists, the pair has also won an Advanced Negotiation Skills Day at CEDR in March.

The University of Brighton’s second team of Krishna Patel and Jaspreet Gorae also competed well but missed out on reaching the finals but have been commended on their performance.
