Placement success for marketing MSc student

The foundation of a successful career in marketing is as much about practical experience as it is about theory. We spoke to Marketing MSc student Alice Mitchell after she received an incredible placement offer to find out more about her new role.

Tell us a bit about your role
So, I will be a Junior Marketing Assistant at En Route International. They are an award-winning sourcing and solutions company for airline food and are a subsidiary company of Emirates. While I’m there, I will be working with a few different teams to understand how the company runs, and how they all feed into the Marketing team. I am excited to get stuck in with anything and everything. I am also quite excited at the possibility of travelling with them as they do events in Europe and the UAE!

What was the application and interview process like, and did you receive any guidance and support from the university?
I had a few ‘informal chats’ with the company and was able to go up to Windsor to see the office and meet the team. Before this, however, I was able to meet with the placement team who were able to give me some very good advice about what I should talk about and what questions I should ask them.

What initially attracted you to pursue a Marketing MSc?
After completing my undergraduate degree in 2022, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I ended up getting a job at the local hospital. After working there for a year and a half I wanted to expand my knowledge and started looking at courses available at Brighton. I came across the marketing course and really liked the look of what it offered, giving me further knowledge and the opportunity to gain a career out of it.

In what ways has the course helped support your career goals?
I think the overall knowledge I have gained has helped support my career goals. I went into this degree with no clear idea of what career I wanted after, however, I now know that I want to go into content creation.

Is there any advice you would give to someone considering the Marketing MSc at Brighton?
My advice for someone considering doing the Marketing MSc at Brighton is: Do it! You will meet some great people, learn loads from the amazing lecturers and come out of it with so much knowledge that you will be able to implement in any future job, even if it isn’t a marketing role.
