Boost your Economics Career with our new Finance and Data Science Pathways

The School of Business and Law at the University of Brighton is excited to announce two brand new pathways available for students on our Economics BSc(Hons) course. These pathway options will be available from 2025 to new and current students in their first year.

Students will have the choice of Economics with Finance BSc(Hons) or Economics with Data Science BSc(Hons). These two new pathways will allow students to focus their studies on something closely aligned with their future career goals.

Economics with Finance Pathway

Choosing this pathway will give you knowledge across economic theory as well as valuable practical finance skills. The blend will prepare you for a wide range of exciting opportunities in a very high-demand area.

The modules on the pathway will cover fundamental economic principles as well as ensuring you are able to navigate the complexities of the financial world. You’ll gain a deep understanding of financial markets, trading and financial management which will prepare you for a successful career in finance, banking and investment.

Economics with Data Science Pathway

With data growing at an exponential rate, businesses, organisations and governments are relying more heavily than ever on data-driven strategy and solutions.

Alongside the core economic modules you’ll be introduced to the concepts of computer programming for data science. You’ll explore basic methodologies, algorithms, and challenges related to analysing and presenting business data, and study how data analysis can support decision-making across business functions and industries.

Our Data Science pathway will provide you with highly sought-after employability skills and knowledge that’s essential in roles such as a data analyst, economic consultant, data scientist and financial analyst.

Flexibility in your studies

At the end of your first year, you’ll have the opportunity to either choose one of these specialist pathways or continue with the broader Economics BSc(Hons) degree.

This flexibility allows you to tailor your studies to match your interests and career ambitions. Whether you’re drawn to the fast-paced world of finance or the cutting-edge field of data science, the choice is yours.

Choosing one of the new pathways means you’ll graduate with “Economics with Finance” or “Economics with Data Science” in your degree title which will demonstrate your specialism to future employers, giving you a competitive edge.
