Marketing Management student Tia’s university placement story
Today, we’ll be sharing the experience of Tia Ungar, a third-year student pursuing her Marketing Management BSc (Hons) degree at the University of Brighton’s School of Business and Law.
We recently caught up with Tia as her time as an Assistant Account Executive during her university placement at Aduro Communications came to an end, offering her invaluable insights into the dynamic landscape of marketing and public relations.
What did Tia’s placement involve?
Tia’s placement was a short-term project, lasting two weeks. She felt like this was a good amount of time, as she was able to gain some valuable insights into the day-to-day workings in the office.
“On my placement, I got to learn about all the different areas of the PR company and was able to work with a variety of clients, from beverage brands to non-profits,” Tia shared. “I felt like I got a very well-rounded view of what they do. I was able to ask lots of questions and gain some valuable insight into day-to-day life at the office. I also got the opportunity to explore the social media side of what the company does by creating decks to record outreach and using scheduling platforms for social media posts.”
Tia’s placement company, Aduro Communications, is a PR/consultancy firm that specialise in delivering far-reaching, engaging work for brands across the UK and beyond.
Does a placement opportunity have to last a year?
No, not at all – Tia didn’t do an official placement year as part of her course, instead opting to do one or two shorter placements throughout her final year. The University of Brighton’s School of Business and Law supports students with shorter placements throughout the year, via the university’s careers and employability team. This includes a team of dedicated placement specialists, who can help you with practicing interviews and knowing where to find opportunities.
“As I didn’t do a placement year, I thought it was good to try and do one or two placements throughout my final year. Not only will it be good for my CV, but it will allow me to get a better idea of the type of industry I would like to work in after university,” Tia explained.
