Joint Air Quality Initiative

The Joint Air Quality Initiative (JOAQUIN) was an €8M, multinational project, which aimed to make advancements towards a better air quality within the North West European (NWE) air pollution “hotspot” region via an integrated 360o approach that would see us advance measurements capabilities, investigate and pilot mitigation techniques and conduct effective and target communication. Part funded by the EU INTERREG IVB programme and involving x partners from across NWE, the funded phase of JOAQUIN concluded in September 2015; key deliverables included:

  1. A brand new, “next generation” air quality monitoring network (including the JAAQS facility in Brighton)
  2. An on-line NWE air pollution observatory
  3. An on-line decision support tool for local authorities and policy makers
  4. An on-line game and mobile application
  5. Teachers packs for air quality education in schools

More information regarding JOAQUIN (including details on the future, post-funding phase) and links to access the projects deliverables can be found on the JOAQUIN and JAAQS websites.
