Meet one of our new Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveying and Project Management) Degree Apprentices

Meet Matthew Wakefield, one of our new apprentices on the Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveying and Project Management) Degree Apprenticeship.

Matthew has worked for West Sussex County Council for just over a year and has recently started in a new role as Contracts Officer. We had a quick chat after one of his on-campus lectures about how he’s finding the programme and why he chose this particular degree apprenticeship.

“My role as a project manager involves dealing with high value contracts on the client side of development projects.

The learning programme for my apprenticeship is funded by the apprenticeship levy, which is amazing for me as I don’t have to pay tuition fees. In addition to this, I wouldn’t have been able to do a traditional degree, because of the loss of income. The apprenticeship fits in with my working week, so I do one day of studying and four days working and gaining experience in the role.

Looking at the modules we’ve got this year, they all look really interesting. This is really going to expand my horizons and opportunities available to me. I’m looking forward to pushing myself, learning new skills and technologies and being in this environment – I’m really enjoying myself so far!”

We’re delighted to hear about Matthew’s experiences so far and can’t wait to hear how he gets on.
