Top 4 things to do before you graduate

With graduation now in sight, and as you start to think about what comes next, we wanted to let you know that we are here for you wherever your journey takes you. Make sure you remain connected with us, by joining your University of Brighton Alumni Association, which also gives you access to continued career support and further study opportunities.

Your Alumni Association is a community of over 180,000 fellow Brighton graduates who have been right where you are today. We like to think of this connected community as being the Brighton Effect. They are ready and willing to support you by sharing stories about their journey and being open to connecting via our LinkedIn alumni group.

What can you do?

As you get ready to graduate remember to:

Join the Alumni Association and share your up-to-date contact details so we can keep in touch

We will keep you posted on job bulletins, further study opportunities and news from the university. Remember your alumni association membership also gives you access to other benefits as part of our Alumni Services.

As part of your graduation ceremony sign-up, we ask you to join the alumni association, if you’re not sure you said yes, don’t worry – you can fill in our New Alumni form.

Set up your LinkedIn profile

You can find advice and guidance on how to set up your LinkedIn profile in our helpful blog ‘How do I set up a LinkedIn profile?

Remember to regularly update your profile and add your skills and experiences. Find industry groups and networks to join, including the Alumni Association Linked In Group, where you can network with fellow graduates, seek advice and find opportunities.

You can continue to access Careers Connect to find your graduate job

If you’ve not used Careers Connect before, it provides students and graduates with access to current vacancies from a range of employers.

Get in touch with your Career Development Adviser

You can continue to access support and advice from the Career Development Team after you graduate. They can help you with composing a professional CV, completing application forms, writing your cover letter, preparing for interviews, career planning, deciding on the type of job you want and where to find it.

Wherever you are going, we will be right there with you. We are excited to see what your Brighton Effect story will be.

What is the Brighton Effect and why is it relevant to you?

The Brighton Effect is that ripple of energy that grows with you during your time at the University of Brighton, and throughout your life. Uniquely individual, you carry it with you through time, careers, passions, curiosities, travel, discoveries, teaching and learnings. No two experiences are the same, and there is no right or wrong. It doesn’t define you; it empowers you to define your own success.

That’s the Brighton Effect.
