The Advanced Engineering Centre recently organised a research day for postgraduate research students to present their work. This provided the opportunity for students to showcase their work to the wider centre membership, and gather feedback. The research presented spanned the entire remit of disciplines covered within the AEC, including experimental spray characterisation, renewable energy, modelling of boiling processes, thermal management in electronic devices, and wound dressing design.

Please see the agenda for the list of talks that were presented.

Congratulations to the prizewinners: Alex Gander for the best presentation, and Francois Clemens for the best poster.

The presentations made on the day can be viewed from the following links:

Elisa Wylie – Renewable fuel combustion: Sustainable route for the future of heavy-duty transportation?

Zuhaib Nissar – Sprays: liquid breakup and droplet distribution

Bhaskar Chakraborty – Towards a Multi-Scale Modelling Approach for Boiling Heat Transfer: Exploring the Applicability of an Enhanced Volume of Fluid Method in Sub- micron Scales

Raffaele De Rosa – Development of an Optimization Algorithm for Liquid Cold Plate Geometric Parameters to Improve Thermal Management in Electronic Device Integration

Corentin Doche – The classification of transcritical mixing processes using state-of-the-art object detection methods

Sertan Kiziloz – Optimising host response biology to advance wound dressing efficacy

Many thanks to Dr Idil Fenercioglu Aydin, Dr Emily Pike-Wilson, and Dr Anastasios Georgoulas for organising the day.
