Behind the Scenes at Sky Sports: VIP access for Sports Journalism students

University of Brighton’s BA and MA Sports Journalism students had the opportunity to go behind the scenes at Sky Sports on Tuesday (March 25), with exclusive access to the state-of-the-art studios, where students saw live broadcasts monitored and directed from the production gallery.

This followed a Q&A session with leading editors from Sky Sports News and digital teams, led by industry adviser Elliot Cook, news editor for Sky Sports News.

Kelly Stock, a student on the trip stated that “It was a really great experience and opportunity to come down. It was really interesting to see the Newsroom and how big the operation is.”

Fellow student, Lily Perrill also stated  “I enjoyed being able to witness the coordinating between the producers, presenters and guests for Sky Sports News from the gallery as the show was going out live – it gave us a real feel for how fast-paced live television production really is.”

Not only was the trip insightful for students, but for some, it was a defining moment that shaped their goals and aspirations for future careers. Jordae Gregoire shared “The atmosphere was unreal for me, something I want to be part of and definitely add a new dimension to the team when I work there.

I’m excited for the journey to see this sign again next time as a Sky Sports employee.”
