Our Journalism and Sports Journalism students recently had the incredible opportunity to meet and learn from Elliot Cook, an editor at Sky Sports News. Elliot shared his expert insight on how to take the next steps towards a successful career in journalism, offering practical tips on employability, CV writing, and what media employers are really looking for.
Joe Southan, L6 Sports Journalist said: “Elliot‘s visit was really helpful. Given his vast experience, his advice really helped me to understand what my next steps in journalism should be.”
Elliot was equally impressed by the passion and curiosity of our students. “I really enjoyed the enthusiasm shown by the students,” Elliot said. “What impressed me most was the questions being asked which reflected their desire to find out more about real-life journalistic scenarios and working practice. I hope that some of the advice passed on will help them in their transition to being working journalists.”
This session was part of the ‘Professional Practice’ module for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, just one of the many ways Brighton students connect with the industry. Through these hands-on experiences, our students gain the skills, confidence, and contacts they need to launch their careers in journalism.
Our Journalism and Sports Journalism courses are packed with opportunities to meet industry professionals, work on real-world projects, and build a portfolio that will impress future employers.
