Painting Alumni Morag Caister wins Sky Arts Portrait of the Year

The win for Morag, who graduated from her Fine Art Painting degree in 2019, means that alumni from the University of Brighton course hold both the current Portrait Artist of the Year and the Landscape Artist of the Year following Elisha Enfield’s win of that title earlier this year.

Since graduating Morag has exhibited widely, is featured in the at Soho House Brighton, been shortlisted for a number of prestigious prizes and won the EROS Award, The Curators, New York/France, 2021 (winner), selected by Diana Widmaier Picasso.

This is the second time that Morag has entered the prize, reaching the semi-final stages in 2020. Her work also featured earlier this year in the programme’s retrospective exhibition  alongside Printmaking BA(Hons) course leader Phil Tyler, who reached the semi-finals of the competition in 2019, and 2019 finalist Sara Lavelle, who graduated from their degree in Illustration BA(Hons) in 2018.
