Graduate Show 2019: Megan Collis: Interior Architecture

I have always been interested in work which follows more conceptual ideas of installation art or set design, where I am really interested in the programme and story behind the design.

Can you tell us about your final year project?

My final project has grown from looking at Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, this “Exposure Spa” is 4 spaces which represent the idea of exposure therapy, providing an experience for the public and the residents of the Isokon Building, London, and also providing optional treatment for OCD patients to come to and receive Exposure Response Prevention therapy.

The demolition of one row of flats in the Isokon Building, Hampstead, formed a “Backstage Area” for other equipment to go such as pump rooms, pipes, a dumb waiter and staff walkways, to enhance the idea of what we are and aren’t exposed to.

These concrete rooms surrounded by hardened fabric would create a different experience for OCD sufferers, the public and the residents of the Isokon Building.

How did you find your course?

The Interior Architecture course at Brighton University is such a welcoming community, tutors and students, which as a course provides you with many skills which are applicable in practice, and I couldn’t be more happy with my choice of course.

What are your plans after graduating?

After I graduate I plan to travel to places such as South America, with the hope to get some work experience to broaden my cultural understanding of Interior Architecture, Set Design or Installation Art.
