Photoworks open call for commissions

Three further photographers will be selected for a £6,400 photography commission for the art programme of Brighton’s major hospital redevelopment – closing date 1 November 2017.Photoworks, which is based at our Edward Street building, is working in partnership with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, Willis Newson and the University of Brighton on CONNECT – the 3Ts Hospital Redevelopment Public Art Programme.

The photography commissions will become part of the permanent collection of photographic artworks sited across 36 public waiting rooms within the new 3Ts redevelopment of Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital to open from 2020.

Underlining a sense of place connecting patients and the local environment, the four themes chosen for the photography programme of CONNECT are Sussex, South Downs, Brighton and Coast. Proposals are sought for the creation of stimulating images for the enjoyment of staff, patients and visitors using waiting areas – work which will become a source of contemplation and pleasure during potential times of stress, distress or discomfort.

Photographer Helen Sear has been selected for the first photography commission.

Who can apply?

Applications are open to photographers nationally and are particularly encouraged from photographers with a connection to Sussex. Find out more on the Photoworks website.
