Join us on Wed 1st May at Brighton venue The Bevy to hear Kim Donovan, author, talk about the process of writing a true crime book and Gemma Graham, University of Brighton psychology lecturer, examine the pros and cons when it comes to the media’s representation of true crime.
Kim, who is also Head of Library Academic Engagement at the University of Brighton, is author of The Mysterious Mrs Hood, a historical true crime book about the life – and death – of her great-great aunt. Kim will talk about the process of writing a true crime book from rooting around in libraries and archives to drawing on historical sources to bring stories from the past to life.
Dr Gemma Graham, who teaches on our Psychology programmes, will focus on the pros and cons when it comes to the media’s representation of true crime, and will critically discuss how real-world criminal cases are often sensationalised and put on trial by the media before they even enter the courtroom.
