Tell us a bit about your business
SideQuest Records @sidequest.records , a community-building music promotions company based in Brighton. I started it to be able to work for myself for the first time and be able to create a project from the ground up with my own objectives.
I’m very proud of the landing pad the business has offered to many young women in the music industry for mentorship and advice on where to learn the craft.
Can you share some tips with aspiring student founders?
Do your market research (where do you fit, who is beside you, who is above you), network with your peers (don’t think about them as competitors), ask more senior people for shadowing opportunities (“you don’t ask you don’t get” is very real!)
How did the Student Enterprise team help you?
Student Enterprise helped me plan out my anniversary gig, an all-dayer fundraising for the Music Venue Trust. Thanks to Helen I was able to plan out my application for the Santander GROW grant and was able to get the event funded, ensuring all artists were paid and all the money went to the chosen charity.
Don’t forget that you too can get help from the Student Enterprise team, no matter what stage of your business startup journey you are on: beepurple@brighton.ac.uk @uobbeepurple
