Alien 1

Acrylic on canvas – 101cm x 76cm – Do you believe in aliens?

All Seeing Eye

Oil on canvas

After painting eyes in most of my paintings including this one, I feel I have built a connection with the human eye. I feel it is the window to the soul, the spirit, our deepest love, secrets and fears. I always thought my paintings were random, even when I paint an eye it is just spontaneous with no planning, its just for aesthetic purposes and personifying a painting by giving it a hint of life in the flesh form. I really feel my eye is relevant to having a vision and being able to manifest that vision so when so when I imagine something in my head, I can manifest it into reality as I have done with the eye painting and many aspects of my life.

Arachnid abstraction

A2 paper size – Mixed-media collage/acrylic painting

Here is my creative response to Frank Stella.
This piece is an A3 mixed media acrylic painting/collage. This was only a quick warm up piece finished in several days to show a rough idea of my creative style. It is relevant to Frank Stella’s work because of the fluorescent primary colours and abstract shapes. I love how the sharp black spikey shape looks almost arachnid in a way. It is a fairly ambiguous piece due to the cut-up train tickets and medication box.

Beaning erosion

Mixed-Media sculpture

This piece is a large-scale abstract sculpture crafted using chicken wire and plaster sheets. This was my first time creating a large-scale sculpture with a chicken wire structure. The sculpture was rather wobbly and unstable after applying all the paint plaster sheets and paint to it, so I decided to take the bottom apart and reassemble the interior by making a bamboo stick scaffolding for extra balance and support. I feel I have learned a lot about the importance of sturdy structure due to the absence of it before. Aesthetically speaking I feel this sculpture hold a powerful dominant presents due to the unique bulky shape and scale of the sculpture compared to my other works. I love how the abstract spray-paint colours layer over the almost reptilian skin like texture of the outer layer.

Delicious textures

Mixed-media sculpture. Delicious textures is an abstract clay sculpture layered in a thick nodose texture by using plaster and acrylic paint to create a layer of smooth plasticky surface over the rough and bumpy erosions underneath the acrylic layer. I admire the individuality this sculpture holds due to the unique abstract spaceship like structure and thickly slabbed on paint and vibrant pastel colour outer layer.

Distortion

Oils, Acrylic and PVA glue on canvas – 152cm x 101cm

So I ordered a canvas during lockdown but it came through the post broken and dented so I tried some thick textures and abstract expressionism to cover the dents. I feel this painting is a game changer in terms of experimenting with a different art genre and painting technique, situation adaptation for painting on a broken canvas and flexible artist style versatility.

Emerald

Mixed-media sculpture

For my summer project I have crafted an 3D abstract organic form like works such as Brancusi and David Kounovsky. The style of my sculpture is relevant to these artists due to the ridged spikes and curvy forms my sculpture portrays. I spontaneously created these shapes and forms in my head then cut them out of cardboard and stuck the structure together using bamboo sticks and wood. I have chosen to name this piece Emerald due to simply the fact it reminds me of a mystic rock such as an emerald or even a reptilian creature due to the use of impulsive, complex patterns and similar natural looking colours.

Extrinsic Drawing

This was very satisfying and pleasurable to draw as are most of my creations. It was quite refreshing picking up some pencils and just spontaneously going for it and having fun. This piece reminds me of Frank Stella’s work due to the ridged spikes and abstract curves that I believe emphasize the contrast and pigment of the fluorescent colours resulting in a visually striking work.

FUCK COVID

Paint pen/gloss on canvas – 100cm x 75cm

This is a cartoonish abstraction typography painting about my frustration towards COVID-19 and the negative impact it has had on people’s mental health and wellbeing due not only to the virus itself but more also the rules and regulations regarding the pandemic and how shutting down everything is ruining the arts, culture, economy.

Pyramid Diptych

Clay sculptures

These two diptych half pyramid sculptures are hand crafted from self-drying clay and spray-painted chrome gold and fluorescent green. These two were experimental because I was trying out a new clay which did end up drying before I made the eyes which were crumbling off the structure at one point, so I had to glue the outer layer eye to the pyramid and spray paint over it. Nether the less they turned out successful. I feel the cartoonist eyes give these two pyramids an abstract take on pop-surrealism.

Pyramid & Sphere

Site specific sculptures

Here I have taken some experimental photos of my sculptures “Pyramid” and “Sphere” these sculptures remind me of Jeff Koon’s “Gazing Ball” because of the burnished abstract minimalistic sphere shape. Koons blue reflective ball sculptures are not only aesthetically like my “Sphere” but are also relevant to the concept of creating modern art and collaborating it with another artist’s work that is of a more traditional or renaissance style compared to mine and Koons Sphere sculptures. I have payed attention to how Koons has taken a prominent artwork such as Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” and added his contemporary twist to it by increasing the size of the painting and adding a glossy sphere to it. I have used this concept to collaborate my sculptures with the historical work in Lady Wooten’s green.
