Lockdown has left us all in a state of limbo. Days stretch into nights and suddenly the sun is setting again, time passes with no rhythm and routine is something long forgotten. As a collective of artists, we have responded to our feelings around this scenario by putting time on pause: once a day, every day, at five minutes past five in the afternoon. We used photography, a quick and effective way of capturing the true nature of our surroundings. The aim of the photos was to be a fifty percent sky, fifty percent landscape image, taken at exactly five minutes past five, from wherever we happened to be at that time. Due to this, many of the works are taken from the inside looking out, a nod to the global feelings of entrapment and isolation throughout the past year. The time five past five was chosen due to the season, Spring, in which we began this two-week endeavour, the varying tones in the sky inspiring us to attempt a record of this time in our lives…a time of change in both a seasonal, personal, and worldwide context. We see this work as a few fleeting moments, collated into a series in which the viewer can feel free to compare, contrast and gaze upon them at their will, our voices read aloud our own thoughts on what the project means to each of us as artists…but it is yours to peruse as you will, and take from it what you need.
