About the project

Thanks for your interest in our research, but this study is now closed to new participants (14/05/2020)

The University of Brighton Diabetes Research Group is conducting a series of research projects, involving young adults aged 18-25 years who have Type 1 diabetes. This research focuses on how people in this age group manage everyday self-care activities, such as checking blood glucose levels or measuring how much insulin to use. It aims to investigate some of the psychological factors that can influence these self-care behaviours.

Who can take part?

Anyone aged 18-25 years, who has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes for over one year can participate in this research if they wish. We have already conducted a study in 2018 that involved completion of a questionnaire about diabetes self-care and ‘Time Perspective’. Time Perspective is how thoughts about our past, present and future can influence our choices and behaviour. Studies have shown it is linked to some health behaviours and in our first study, we found several links between Time Perspective and diabetes self-care.

We are now running a follow-up study to find out more about these links. We will be conducting interviews with young adults aged 18-25 years who live with Type 1 diabetes, to try and find out more about what it’s like living with this form of diabetes, and why Time Perspective is connected to self-care behaviour.

Anyone who takes part in an interview will be offered a £20 gift voucher as thanks for their time.
