8th May

This morning contained a wonderful surprise and a chance meeting with Helen who very kindly keeps an eye on all the bird activity in the wood. John and I visited every bridge in sequence to check on their condition – a sort of health report – and it was while we were doing this that we met Helen. She was carrying an endoscope and invited us to look into a small gap on the side of a old hollow sycamore tree, to view a nest of baby birds. It was wonderful.
The bluebells are almost finished, deer are roaming freely and we found a healthy wych elm growing happily.
