7th November

It was very cold and windy walking along the way to the wood this morning but once inside its balding canopy, it was calm, warmer and sheltered from the wind. Is this why the wood has survived so long over time? Eleven volunteers met and worked hard to complete a long section of pathway. John cut down sycamores between Derek’s bridge and the south entrance, to open up the canopy and allow light in to nourish the young hazel and lime trees fighting for space. We all felt that narrowing the pathway between edges of cut tree trunks means the wood will remain a nature reserve for much longer by keeping visitors to a path and away from the natural eco-system living all around.

things dont always go easily with a chainsaw. The air filter was blocked and poor John spent ages trying to get it started
