27th June

I had to be in High Wycombe today so Tim was in charge and work went smoothly in warm sunshine. Six volunteers made good headway with path building and John cut down a ‘hung up’ tree over a pathway to the south. This is where a tree has been blown over by the weather – usually a combination of strong winds and rain but sometimes old age or disease – and instead of landing on the floor, it gets lodged in a nearby tree’s branches. It then becomes a bit of a time bomb waiting for gravity to finish the job and pull everything down at once. So John intervenes with his brilliant skills in cutting the trunks in exactly the right place so everything falls gracefully to earth. Its not quite the end of the story though.
