Student Discounts

There are a number of discounts available to University of Brighton students, to help make travelling sustainably even more affordable on a tight budget.

Brighton & Hove Buses

Check out the Brighton and Hove Buses student portal for up-to-date information about student ticket prices, ticket types, bus routes, and more.

Unizone Train tickets

Unizone is a unique season ticket exclusively available for students, offering huge savings to those regularly travelling by train.

The Brighton Unizone is valid for travel to and from Brighton, as far West as East Worthing, and as far East as Eastbourne and Seaford.

The Unizone is available in weekly, monthly, and quarterly tickets. Visit the Southern Rail webpage for full details on current prices, and routes covered by the Unizone discount.

Save money on train travel using the University of Brighton Trainsplit website, which searches for available ‘split tickets’ (separate legs) to a journey, as it is often cheaper to buy multiple tickets than one ‘through’ ticket. Don’t worry, you don’t have to get off the train where you change from one ticket to another, but you must travel on a train that stops at every station where you split tickets.

The Trainsplit website will do all the work for you, showing any available split tickets on your journey so you can save on your fare – plus there is no booking fee. Visit the University of Brighton Trainsplit website, watch the video for more info on how split ticketing works and download the Trainsplit app using your university email address.

Additionally, for each ticket bought through the Trainsplit website, the university receives a 1% rebate, (a share of the commission Raileasy receive from the train companies when a ticket is sold). This rebate will be ring-fenced and used to fund sustainable transport initiatives across the campuses, decided on annually by the Sustainability Governance Board.

If you are aged between 16 and 25, or over 25 and in full-time study, you’re eligible for a 16-25 railcard. The railcard will give you 1/3 off Standard Anytime, Off-Peak, Standard Advanced and First Class Advanced rail fares in the UK. The railcard costs £30 a year or £70 for 3 years and can be bought online, at a train station or by phone.

If you are aged 26-30 the National Rail 26-30 Railcard will save you 1/3 on journeys across Britain for just £30 a year. It is the first digital-only Railcard and it’s available to buy online and download to the Railcard app on a smartphone. Once downloaded you can then start travelling (and saving) straight away.
