Helen, and her team of Student Advice Service,
please clarify the Universities position re. reductions on post graduate study for Brighton alumni.

For the last 3 tears I have seen, and collected a range pf flyers stating “£3000 reduced fees for Brighton graduates”. Now on your web site I find that £3000 reductions are available for either a 2.1 or 1st degree when enrolling for postgrad study. Are these separate ‘offers’ or cunningly disguised as one and the same, being mutually exclusive?
I have a place on a Brighton university Masters programme, graduating with either a 2.1 or 1st degree, with a guaranteed DSA SFE Special support grant totalling £10,250. Hence, what course fees will I ultimately be asked to pay? What other financial support or bursaries are available to me from September 12th when I begin my MA studies? Thanks & regards.

Hi David, thank you for your question.

There have been a range of different incentives over the past few years and it is difficult to keep abreast of the most current offer. That said, as I understand it we are currently offering 2017 PG entrants with ‘Home’ status one of the following:

    1. First-class honours in 2016/17 (from any institution) receive a £3000 discount
    2. 2:1 or First-class in 2016/17 from (University of Brighton) receive a £3000 discount

There are also other bespoke scholarships for international students, research students, sports excellence etc.

If you are successful in being granted one of these scholarships you can’t get then also receive the standard Alumni 10% discount.

I would assume that you cannot receive both scholarships, but you can check your exact amount of fees (after a scholarship) by emailing the Fees team:

I understand that students don’t need to apply for these scholarships, rather that the discount will automatically be applied as long as you apply for the course in good time.

If you are seeking to find out what the exact fees will be for your course, you can contact the Fees team direct:

As for additional funding, you may well be eligible to apply for a Postgraduate Loan through Student Finance England.

If you have any questions about this, it might be better to give us a call on 01273 642888 to discuss your individual circumstances. We’re here throughout the summer months.
