How to apply for funding for 20/21 – continuing students

Are you going to be continuing with your studies in September? If the answer is ‘yes’, you need to get your funding sorted.

It has probably been a year since you applied for the current year’s funding and a year feels like a very long time ago right now.

You might not be aware that you need to re-apply for your Student Finance tuition fee loan and maintenance loan each year of study. So, if you’ve not yet submitted your application, you need to apply by 19th June to ensure you’ll receive your funding promptly at the start of next term.

All you need to log on to the Student Finance portal is your email address or customer reference number, your password and secret answer. If you’ve forgotten your password, it is easy to change it to something more memorable, but please don’t write it down or share it with anyone, not even close friends or family.

The good news is that the process should be a lot more straightforward than previous years for most students who are progressing on the same course.

If your application has been based on your parents’ household income, they will need to support your application again by providing their income details for the financial year April 2018 – April 2019. They can do this in the usual way, using the online application portal, or by printing the PFF2 application for for 2020/2021.

Student Finance is open for business and processing applications normally, but it may take longer to get through on the phone lines, so if you have got any questions about your funding or the application process, please contact us in Student Advice in the first instance as we can probably answer your questions or send you any forms or information you might need.

We know that the process can be quite confusing for parents as well, so if your parents have got any questions about the process, they can contact us at the usual email address: studentadvice@brighton.ac.uk. We can provide a call back if you’d rather talk to us, but we are unable to accept calls at this time due to remote working.

If you are still undecided about what do next term, we understand. We know that these are very uncertain times, but our message is get the ball rolling while you’ve got some time as it will be one less thing to worry about later on.

We are open for virtual business every weekday 8.30 – 5pm, but you can submit a question whenever you like and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Best wishes from all the team

      Hi Maya
      Thank you for your question.
This message applies to Home/UK based students only I’m afraid as it relates to the student loan scheme arranged by the UK government.
If you have got a question about funding as an international student, please can I redirect you to our international advice pages here: https://www.brighton.ac.uk/international/study-with-us/support-for-international-students/index.aspx where you will also find contact details of the International Student Advice team. They will be able to talk to you about your particular situation.

      Best wishes
      Helen
