  • If your academic year is 30  weeks (+ 3days) and you are living independently from your parents, you will receive the relevant amount in the first column in black, set against your household income.
  • If your academic year is 45 weeks and your household income is below £39,000 per year, you will receive the relevant amount in one of the last 3 columns in black, set against your household income.
  • If your academic year is 45 weeks and your household income is above £39,000 per year, you will receive the relevant amount in one of the last 3 columns in red+ set against your household income.

NB The exact amount your entitled to also depends where you are living whilst you study

Any additional allowances for Supplementary Grants such as Parent Learning Allowance or DSA will be listed separately.

In order to check this, you need to know your household income (typically your partner’s or parents’ income) and exact course length. If your household income is under £39,000 per annum, you could be entitled to receive an additional £59 per week if you live in the parental home, or £90 per week if you live independently.

Student Finance England assessed students who are studying on a ‘long’ course, ie courses over 30 weeks + 3 days in duration per academic year, can refer to the following guidance from SFE, which may help explain the assessment thresholds and mechanism: Long Courses Loan.

If you want some help to work out your correct entitlement, the Student Advice team can help with this, as long as you know your timetabled weeks and household income. We know that some students have been incorrectly assessed this year, so please check.

Drop in to see an Adviser at your/any campus or give us a ring on 01273 642888. We are open this week as usual but from Monday 18th December we will be offering a reduced service across all campuses so please ring ahead before you travel.

Hope this information doesn’t confuse things any further – if in doubt, check it out!
