Do you receive regular benefit payments to help support you and/or your family?

From today, 7th November, the maximum yearly amount that people can claim is being reduced.

For a single person, the new amount is £15,410 if you are living in London and £13,400 if you live anywhere else.

For a family, the new amount is £23,000 if you are living in London and £20,000 if you live anywhere else.

If you are a disabled person receiving PIP or DLA, or a carer/guardian receiving Carer’s/Guardian’s Allowance you may not be affected by these changes. There are other exempt groups also – for the full list of exemptions, please click here

Brighton and Hove City Council have produced a short leaflet which explains a little bit more. To view it, please click here

It is quite complicated and we know this will affect many lone parent students who are not working.

We advise you to read any correspondence you have received from DWP about these changes, or check the dates of local housing allowance etc as you may have to start contributing more to your rent payments in particular.
