If you are due to start uni and you have been assessed by Student Finance England, you must return your loan declaration form before your funds are released. Even if your assessment is showing as ‘approved’ and the payments have been scheduled, you won’t receive any funds until your loan declaration has been received by SFE.  The easiest and quickest way to do this is by printing off the declaration form from your online account as this contains your unique reference number.

Once they have received the loan declaration form, your National Insurance number will then need to be verified, which can take a further couple of weeks.

Another important thing to do is to check your bank details. If you have recently changed your account or opened a new student account, you must update these details on your student finance account.

For more essential information on getting paid, watch the short video above.

When you enrol in person, the uni then tells your funding authority that you are here. This will trigger the first payment of your maintenance loan as long as you have completed all the necessary application requirements. If everything is in place, you should receive your first instalment in 3 working days from your in person enrolment.

Try to have some money when you start uni, just in case there are any slight delays.
