The afternoon provided an opportunity to meet key figures from both organisations and gain an insight into the importance of events for high-profile brands. University wins top journalism award for Albion partnership

The University of Brighton’s Sport Journalism course’s partnership with Brighton and Hove Albion FC has won a prestigious journalism prize.

The Premier League Apprenticeship scheme scooped the Innovation of the Year award at the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) 2018 Awards for Excellence.

Launched at the start of the 2017-18 season, the Apprenticeship with Albion sees six final-year Sport Journalism students employed as match-day assistants at the club. Students have interviewed high-profile football managers such as Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho. Read More

Sport Journalism third-year students heard about how women’s sport can be covered more responsibly as they visited Sky Sports on a field trip.

University joins the Albion

The University of Brighton is the new Official Higher Education Partner of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club.

The new partnership between the city’s largest university and its Premier League football club will build on existing collaborations through the School of Sport & Service Management and School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences in the areas of sports science and medicine.

The new partnership will provide a platform for a range of activities, including potential research projects (including potential co-funding of PhD opportunities) and joint work on community programmes. Students studying in a wide variety of areas such as sport science, sport coaching, sport management, sport journalism, hospitality, event management, travel and tourism, and physical education will all benefit from the partnership. Women now have a pathway in media

Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates believes women can now “see a path for themselves” when seeking careers in journalism and the media.

From concept to print in just seven days!

Students studying on the Journalism BA(Hons) and Sport Journalism BA(Hons) courses came together to create a 24-page magazine this week.

In just seven days, 109 students from all three years of study created, edited and published the magazine from scratch. They also managed to simultaneously multiply the www.overtimeonline.co.uk audience fourteen-fold!

More than 2,500 copies of the magazine, Overtime, is being distributed across all University of Brighton campuses from today. Read More
