We’re delighted that our sport management course has been endorsed by a national institution.
Sport Management BSc(Hons) has received backing from the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) against the sport and physical activity sector’s professional standards framework.
The professional development body for the UK’s sport and physical activity sector, CIMSPA is “committed to supporting, developing and enabling professionals and organisations to succeed and, as a result, inspire our nation to become more active”.
Professor Jo Doust, Head of the University’s School of Sport and Service Management, said: “We have been very pleased to be a CIMSPA Higher Education Partner for the last two years and are delighted that the BSc Sport Management degree is the first of our programmes to receive endorsement.
“The course offers students wide-ranging opportunities to develop personally and professionally. Endorsement against the CIMSPA professional standard of General Manager confirms that the course meets industry standards and provides graduates with the chance to start their careers in a positive way.”
The University first became a CIMSPA Higher Education Partner in January 2018 and students across different courses have benefitted as a result.
The professional standards which form part of the endorsed degree programme cover a range of skills and knowledge including coaching, working with children in different age groups, safeguarding and working in the school environment.
CIMSPA said an endorsement “enables and ensures employability for sport and physical activity-related programmes such as the BSc Sport Management degree – in partnership with the sector’s chartered professional body. This employability benchmark means that the student will receive an education that will enable them to be deployed in one or multiple roles within the industry’s workforce”.
Students on the course will also receive discounted student-affiliate membership with CIMSPA.
CIMSPA “seeks new partnerships with Higher Education institutions to provide more opportunities for students and graduates: An expanded, more diverse and more inclusive workforce begins at UK universities”.
Helen Hiley, the Higher Education Officer at CIMSPA, said: “Brighton’s degree endorsement represents another step forward for CIMSPA. This endorsement will allow students to realise their potential by having a clear route into and through our sector.”
