The genre comedy has always been a good hit ever since film first began to be made, unlike other film categories comedy has always been a consistent choice for film simply because everyone loves to laugh and feel good, categories like Thriller and Documentary started off slow when it came to viewings as they took time to get people interested in those types of genre, but as off recent years the categorise of thriller, documentary, musicals and horror has got a lot more popular lately and the categorise of war, musicals and western are not as popular in today’s society. when it comes to action, horror, romance, sci fi, crime, comedy and fantasy, they have all been consistent with viewings over the years since films had started to be made.

When it comes to the main iconography within comedy, it is usually an up-beat, light colours, natural camera work and much more. An example of this is the film “The Inbetweeners movie”, this film is a comedy film about a group of guys on holiday and the movie has a range of iconography to represent the comedic feel throughout the whole film. The first one is that it uses warm colours as this gives the sense to the viewers that they are in a warm and happy place, another element of this is that the movie is well populated meaning most of the movie has strangers and actors all across the film giving off a social feel to the viewer, one more element of iconography is that the movie has a lot of non-diagetic sounds which means the majority of the sounds from the film are not edited, with this it gives off to the viewer that comedic feel if an actor was to tell a joke and also gives the atmosphere feeling to the viewer as if they are there in the film.

One of the reasons why comedy does so well in the film industry is because people can make a comedy about mostly anything, you can get comedies for kids, teenagers, adults and the elderly and everyone seems to love it, usually when a viewer is watching a comedy film, it is so that the viewer can lose sense of reality and focus on the film and feel as if he or she is in the film themselves. Another reason why the category of comedy is popular is because it can be mixed well in other film categories, this has been popular over the years where you can now find films that are romantic comedies, horror and comedy, action comedy, thriller comedy and many more, from this it gives much more choice to the viewer on what they want to watch as it will fit their needs. In regards of this, this means that there are so many films being made within the comedy category and this is a good and bad thing because it means that more and more movies are being made but then it is now going to be hard to create a comedy film which will make it separate from all other other films out there today.
