17th March 2017

  • The BOPA-PRUK research award. Grants will be awarded up to a value of £5,000 and may be used to support an independent research project or research component of a higher degree.

12th March 2017

  • PRUK. Personal research awards and research training bursaries 2016

6th January 2017

  • Dowager Countess Eleanor Peel Trust. Major (>£50,000) and minor (<£15,000) research grants focused on health and well-being in the elderly.  Collaborators in the North West of England preferred.

5th January 2017

  • Pharmacy Research UK Funding round opens.  Click the link for more details.  There are three main categories of award:
    • Research Training Bursaries
    • Personal Research Awards
    • BOPA-PRUK Research Award
  • Clinical Grand Round Symposium – British Thoracic Society.  This is competition that ‘supports specialist trainees and health care professionals who submit clinical case studies to the society’s annual meeting. Submissions should highlight a case demonstrating aspects of commonly encountered diseases that provide the audience with key learning points, whilst providing a diagnostic or management challenge.’

  • NIHR Health Technology Assessment Programme: There are commissioned calls in the following areas:
    • preoperative inspiratory muscle training;
    • proton pump inhibitor therapy for refractory gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms
    • role of bile duct imaging in gallbladder surgery
    • frenotomy for babies with tongue-tie
    • responsive versus scheduled feeding for preterm infants
    • antidepressants for depression in people with Parkinson’s disease
    • oral splints for orofacial symptoms.
  • NIHR Health Technology Assessment Programme: There are commissioned calls in the following areas:
    • pharmacological management of post-traumatic seizures
    • treatments for women with recurrent stress urinary incontinence after failed primary surgery
    • delivering babies in or out of water
    • long-term impact of pre-incision antibiotics on babies born by caesarean section
    • rescue cerclage
    • selective gut decontamination in critically ill children
    • harm reduction intervention for severe drug or alcohol dependence among people who are homeless
    • pramipexole for treatment resistant bipolar depression
    • problem solving therapy for depression in older adults with dementia
    • improving communication for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities
    • clozapine in the treatment of borderline personality disorder
    • reducing the risk of anxiety disorders in children of parents seeking help for their own anxiety
    • risk assessment tool to help identify prisoners at further risk of self-harm
    • knee braces in the management of knee osteoarthritis
    • partial removal of dental caries in permanent teeth
    • low-dose antidepressants for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome
    • modelling the potential for health gain and cost effectiveness of the NHS health check programme.
