SUMMARY

Reflecting on my project, it has changed rather a lot since my statement of intent. However the desire to make a magazine has always been apparent. I began my idea by looking at the idea of creating  a magazine which was a collaborative project between a designer and a creative (Miu Miu and Wes Anderson). However I quickly came to realise that this was going to be too difficult to accomplish as I would have no access to real designer pieces or understand the way the creative would work. I then chose to develop my idea further from Miu Miu and look into glamour. This quickly moved into looking at what people felt about the idea of glamour, taking me to Taste, Vulgarity and Excess.

I feel that the most successful parts of it have been; the final outcome, the website and the overall aesthetic of the magazine. The magazine has turned out just as I would have hoped it to. I am also very proud of the fact that I have bound and made the magazine myself as this is something I have no previous experience in. The magazine’s website is something else which I am really pleased with as I spent quite a bit of time trying to make it reflect the magazine but still have its own look to it. I am also pleased with how the whole aesthetic of the magazine has turned out, it definitely reflects the idea of taste and vulgarity through the graphics used.

The least successful aspects of the project would be the content ratio. I would have liked to include more written work as I would want to push the academic side to the magazine. As there are only 3 articles I feel this is something which could have been built on. I also feel the graphics could have been improved upon. With my knowledge of the discipline I know that I could have improved upon certain aspects which are used within layout design if I had had the knowledge to do so.

If I was able to change things about the project/ outcome I would have liked to  develop the website more. I would like to have added to the online content page adding interviews and features from people who are not in the magazine. I would also have liked to add a news section which would feature updates around the topic of disscusion of each issue and also have written articles which lead on to themes explored in the magazine. I feel I also could have branched out with the use of social media platforms and could have used other platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The reasoning behind only using Instagram at the moment as it is a visual way of engaging the viewers and showing what they can expect from the first issue.

If I were to take the idea of Concept magazine further I would like to get more people on board in order to add a more diverse style. I feel that as the magazine has been made solely by one person it could be seen as lacking diversity in style and there will be more of a range of ideas if bringing others on board. If I were to commission the help of other people to create content exclusively for the magazine it would give an edge to the magazine which would make people want to buy the magazine in order to see these works. I would also enhance the website in order to make it a platform for people to discuss their ideas and give opinions. I feel this would be a great way to engage the audience thus ultimately increasing future possible sales for the magazine.

Choosing A2 prints

I was originally going to have two landscape A2 prints on my board however after measuring this against the board, I have realised it will not fit. I have now decided to have two portraits hanging next to each other. My options for this are as seen below.

I have decided to go for option number 1 as I feel the colours are very eye catching yet the image is still strong and has impact.
