Maths Masterclasses

Students aged 12-13 from schools in the Brighton area are taking part in mathematics masterclasses at the University of Brighton.

Dr Paul Harris, Reader in applied mathematics and Senior Lecturer Steve Kilgallon, both from the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics, have organised the Saturday morning classes in collaboration with the Royal Institution (RI) and Sussex branch of the Mathematical Association.

At the end of the last session on 1 December the students will be presented with a certificate from the RI.

Dr Harris said “Our aim is to help the students with their studies but also to show them how maths can unlock so many interesting secrets and how it can be fun and rewarding. We hope that attending the Masterclasses will also encourage the students to continue to study maths, and other STEM subjects, in the future.”
