My first year as a Brighton maths student

Bill Wallis talks about his first year as a student studying Mathematics BSc(Hons).

DSC_2826I always knew I was going to do a maths degree. It was when I first came to Brighton university open day that really sparked my interest in coming here. I got to connect with staff members as well as second year students and explore the city. Brighton has a friendly atmosphere both in and out of the university campuses, and above all it’s a beautiful place to live.

The lecturers are fantastic, enthusiastic and fun. I’ve always received a warm welcome with my frequent visits to staff when I have questions about our content, as well as any other queries I may have.

I would definitely recommend the course to anyone that’s interested in a maths degree because of its real-life application. You can apply what you have learnt to the workplace. This helps your career prospects, which is really important at the moment. I don’t know what I want to do as my career yet but I definitely know that I want to do a masters after I complete this degree.

My advice to anyone who is thinking of applying to this course is to work hard and get the grades so you can come and study maths here!
