Creating My Final Pieces Submission

At first, I really struggled to decide what I wanted my final outcome to be. I had five photoshoots to work with so my best options were magazine editorials, exhibition pieces, or a photo book. I started off designing some magazine editorials which I initially liked, they were bold and graphic and inspired by the magazine Plastique. I was initially being advised against this as the graphics didn’t compliment a few of the shoots which I agreed with and the overall document didn’t quite flow as a final piece. I then had a look at laying my document out like an exhibition, but definitely struggled with computing this to the pdf and everything I tried didn’t quite look right.

I ended up designing what I would call a photo book of my FMP named ‘Absence of Body’. Although I wasn’t sure of a book when I first started designing, my images kind of fell into one. I didn’t like the way the editorial separated my shoots from each other so the book made the most sense so that I could group them all under the same title. I had a look at a few photobooks I own like Alex Prager’s ‘Silver Lake Drive’, so that I could layout the images slightly differently per shoot so the book wasn’t too rigid. Below is my final result.
