Shoot Four: Desolate Dress

This shoot was conceived through all the research above and me needing something I could successfully complete in the midst of lockdown. I liked the Marni images location within the greenery and also liked Eloise Capet’s series where the clothing emulates the bodies form in the wind, I thought they worked well in black and white as they seemed to capture an emotion, completely opposite to the Marni product shots. I wanted to combine both the greenery and the bodies form, and through some trial and error of the very first dress being thrown numerous times on a range of different trees, found that an almost aerial view worked well with the light flooding through the garment. I chose each garment for its pattern and lightness of fabric as the lighter fabrics were much better at being shaped in a way that emulates the bodies form.

I really love how this series of images came out and it’s nice that they’re something completely different to anything I’ve ever done before. In what I thought was lockdown restricting my creativity, it has actually focused me more and made me work in ways I’m not used to, which can only be a good thing when trying to develop your portfolio and range of skills. It has made me want to do a lot more with still life which is something I can move onto outside of this project.

In the desolate dress, threads of abandonment weave a melancholic tale. The fabric, once vibrant, now clings to memories like a fading echo. In its folds, the essence of solitude lingers, whispering untold stories. Amidst the emptiness, a forgottenthc pen spain rests, a relic of a bygone reverie. The dress, a silent witness to the passage of time, encapsulates the beauty found in the remnants of the past.
