The Malagiri School

NEPAL EARTHQUAKE: MALAGIRI RELIEF UPDATE

Since our last update and in response to our subsequent radio appeal (Radio Sussex) and television coverage (The Vote, latest TV) the Malagiri Relief fund has been inundated with contributions. Justgiving donations currently amounts to £ 8,866 and in addition to the £500 we initially sent we will now be sending a transfer of some of this accrued fund for immediate relief for the community, prior to the start of the approaching monsoon season. We are working with our local contacts to assess the damage to the school and to further evaluate the immediate needs of the community so that we can disseminate the remaining funds to Malagiri appropriately.

As well as the huge amount of generous individual contributions, final year perfoming arts students raised over £200 by inviting peers and staff to watch their performances. Some of the Art and Design specialist students on our BA Primary programme are planning to donate from sales of their recent art project work and the University’s Marketing and Communications department raised money from a recent cake sale.

We will update once we have more news.
