Baby Father (BBF) is an album produced by Underground artist Dean Blunt and hosted by DJ Escrow. Blunt is a multi-faceted artist with both musical and artistic investment, he is known to be a rebellious figure and a prankster with an obscured identity. Not only recognised as a solo artist, Blunt is also the other half of the music duo Hype Williams as well as being a part of Babyfather.

The album begins with a song called ‘stealth Intro’. It is a 5 minute song which is constantly Repeating Craig David’s “this makes me proud to be British” snippet from his 2000 best RnB award acceptance speech.

It’s about the countless interpretations of national identity, about the exclusion of marginalised voices in moments of national celebration, about the sheer bullshit of state-sanctioned public events. It’s a difficult listen, but it immediately underscores the sense of despondency running through the record (Hall, 2016).

The albums captures consciousness and thoughts of those sampled. “Don’t do the crime if it’s already been done”, “That’s why I’m here, y’know – not just to play tunes but to show man certain things, innit. You can rise up and be better like, you can advance yourself.” In this, the album speaks of marginalised power and addresses the circumstantial rejection of those particularly who aren’t born into white middle class. A poetic cry to break away from the constraints forced upon those who aren’t born into a comfortable life.
