Album 3

This is the final collection of photos I took in the woods. I have explored different compositions by trying out different locations across the woods. This will help for when putting my final collection together as I have a broad range of insight captured across this location. I also experimented with long exposures with the use of my tripod to create a different image type. This is a good way to display varied camera abilities as well as capture movement and action. This is an important factor with my images conveying narrative as a way to help bring this concept to life.

Black and White Edits

Here I have had a go at editing some of the pictures I have currently shot. I used Adobe Light Room and adjusted the contrast and tones across my work. However, I have found some images haven’t come out quite how I would like. Therefore, when it comes to putting together my final collection, I will make sure every image is edited to correct exposure. Particularly, I want to ensure there is a significant white and black contrast as well as a soft edited overall look to the images.

Inspiration- Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potters theme across her storybooks also influences my work. Similarly, her story’s entail adventures between animals which is reflective across my portfolio collection. Her work also creates that imaginative and quirky feel that I would like to bring across in my final images.

Album 2

This is the second collection of photos I took in the woods. I have had a go at exploring different angles and perspectives. This essentially will help the overall narrative between the images as you develop a deeper insight.

Artist Inspiration- Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz creates profound pieces of work that is inspired by fantasy and imagination. These are key aspects I would like to incorporate into my work. The magical feel to her work truly captured by the colours and elements across each image leaves you looking at more than just a photo but an entrance to endless imagination particularly with a narrative feel. I also like how with many of her photos she includes phrases or sentences from each fairytale book she is recreating. This is a great way to really develop a narrative expression in each image. With my sense of place being located in the forest I would like to reflect her style as a form of inspiration throughout my work. I would like to interpret this enchanted feel in response to her work  in order to create wonder and imagination with my cats being located in a place you wouldn’t expect. Therefore performing a magical feel with my concept being out of place and out of the ordinary. Effectively bringing across an symbolic message that anything is possible.

Artist Inspiration- Duane Michals

Duane Michaels is a unique photographer that captures a collection of photos as a series which expresses a story and meaning behind the images. This style interests me for my portfolio because I would like each image to link and flow together to create a combination of images that are different but fit together nicely as a collection. I also like his black and white theme across his work, which can potentially draw out any distraction to focus purely on the representation and links conveyed. Here you can see that across each image he has displayed a deeper insight of what is going on which is just like telling a story. His work inspires me to convey the theme as black and white to bring together and truly capture the flow between the images.

Final Idea- Album 1

Here I explored further at taking photos in the woods which was more enjoyable and not as limited in comparison to with my family photos which I struggled to develop and improve further. Therefore I have decided to develop an interest in sense of place being explored in an opposite form of being out of place. This has been constructed by capturing photos of my cats in a forest at the end of my garden, which is seen as a unique and quirky style. I would like to continue taking photos of the cats in the woods to express fantasy with a narrative portrayal. The idea of domestic cats exploring freely in a forest, could also exhibit any natural instincts which I am to capture and interpret into a narrative.

Looking into this further I am keen to create a range of images looking into the rule of thirds and depth of field to insure I am really capturing key elements into an overall composition. The idea behind this is to the grab the attention of the viewer and draw them in as if they are there or can get a true insight of the location. Also incorporating key features across each image to ideally come together and help tell a story. This is important to consider in preparation for my final portfolio of images, in order to link and truly bring out this narrative across each image as a collection. Effectively with each image being more than just a photo but an insight to this magical and mysterious narrative.

Practise Shots 2

As I attempted taking another collection of photos representing memory and meaning in one place, I have struggled to develop this theme further. This is because I found it very restrictive trying to incorporate my photography abilities into each image, which had to include an old family photo in that place. Therefore I have decided to look into my other idea of Sense of Place within a forest in contrast featuring my cats. This will be explored in my next post, where I have a go at taking these photos and representing any capabilities.

Family Photos- Practise Shots 1

Here I have had a go at incorporating old family pictures and memories of us in our home to my photos. I have printed and placed them across the house today to express this location as a significant place for me and my family.
