Hi all,

I hope that you are all aware of Glassdoor but here is a reminder.

Glassdoor is one the fastest growing jobs and recruiting sites.

On the site, you can:

  • Search for jobs
  • Get an insight into companies with employee reviews
  • See what previous applicants have been asked at interview – I think that this is really useful!

This is their website: www.glassdoor.co.uk

Important Information for the Summer

Hi all,

I hope that all your exams have gone well. I strongly recommend a bit of relaxation.

However, do not relax for too long because there is still plenty of time to get that placement job.

The Placements Office will be staffed throughout the summer. So, come in and see us, email or call us.

You will also be able to Skype us – details to follow.

In addition, we will be phoning or emailing you all within the next week to see what help we can offer you.

Let’s make this a bumper year for students getting industrial placements!

Josh loves Coast to Capital. You could too!

Hi all,

I hope that you all appreciate the value of doing an industrial placement but I want to share with you the following from Josh who is currently on placement at Coast to Capital.

Josh says:

‘I’m doing well, the placement’s still great, I get to do a bit of everything to fill gaps as needed. It’s a nice role with a lot of autonomy, it’s what you make it really.

For example, since I didn’t have a placement until September I started learning Russian over last summer. My role here has taken on a focus on international trade and as luck would have it I’m now in talks with a company from Russia about them maybe coming to the area, and I’ll be doing a Skype call with them tomorrow. I’m also getting funded by Coast to Capital to go to an event by the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce in London soon, where I’ll get to introduce both Coast to Capital and myself to even more of these businesses.

Point being for a student who wants a dynamic role in a small, open organization, this one is pretty awesome! I can’t think of anyone here I would consider unapproachable’.

Well done, Josh!

Josh is doing the role that I emailed about yesterday – as a Service Pillar Support Assistant. The role is open till the 30th May. Get applying, please!

The details are on studentcentral. See Virginia’s favourite jobs.

Best of luck!

Join Reade on Route 66!

Congratulations to Reade Whiteman, who is our 66th student to get an industrial placement this year.

Reade showed huge persistence and self-belief to be successful in getting a placement as an Operations Manager with GIST.

He gained one of 15 places, beating over 900 other candidates and fighting his way through 5 different application stages! What an achievement!

There are still lots of placements available and lots of time to apply.

Get your kicks on Route 66!

One of our 47 Success Stories so far!

Hi all,

If you are getting frustrated with applying for placements and not being successful, read this success story.

Sasha was getting downhearted. She had completed 30 applications and felt that she wasn’t getting anywhere until she attended 2 interviews. At both of these, she realised that, whilst demonstrating company knowledge was important, it was displaying a passion for the role and a desire to succeed that was actually going to get her the job.

At Prysmian, she was interviewed for a role as a Purchasing Assistant.

She got the job! Well done her!

She was so relieved and excited. She says that she was ‘Ecstatic!

And her advice?

She says that it was ‘Hard work, a slog, but you just have to keep going and hope you do get something’.

Dear all,

There are two final events for your calendar this term.

KPMG, the Consultancy Company, are giving a presentation in Mithras House. They are recruiting for both graduate roles (final years) and industrial placements (second years) in the Channel Islands.

They will be here this Wednesday 29th March, 1 till 2pm.

That Wednesday between 2 till 3 there is also a psychometric test workshop, run by the FDM group. It will offer useful tips on coping with the online tests and how to approach them.

Please email me at l.rush@brighton.ac.uk to book your place.

Both events will be in Room 117.
